Paul Laurence Dunbar:"Beyond the Mask" Documentary
Beyond the Mask is a 2 hour documentary of Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906), the first African American to achieve national fame for literary work. He is best known for his poem "We Wear the Mask", "Sympathy" and "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings". This film tells the story of the man Frederick Douglass called "the most promising young colored man in America". Dunbar grew up in Dayton, Ohio.
